Improved sound insulation in partition and attic lining solutions - DUO

How to improve noise protection without overpaying?

Duo hybrid solutions from Norgips are a response to the increasing awareness of people renovating their flats or houses. Good soundproofing indoors is something to which special attention is paid. Everyone is looking for effective and relatively inexpensive solutions to achieve comfort.
On the basis of these assumptions, the idea was born to test how partition walls with double gypsum board sheathing of different densities - lightweight and heavy plasterboard - can protect against noise.

Testing the effectiveness of soundproofing

The tests took place in our R&D laboratory in accordance with EN 10140-2:2011. The first study used a combination of GKB A and Acoustic A. Six types of partition wall were tested. The level of sound attenuation obtained was 5 dB higher compared to the walls with double sheathing with GKB A boards. This is a very satisfactory result. The results have enabled us to offer our customers partition walls that insulate twice as well against sound. On top of that, the price of these walls is very attractive. Now, at little more cost, you can gain a high acoustic standard. We carried out further tests on partition walls with double boarding with GKB A and Acoustic Super DFH2IR. This time we also achieved better results. The sound insulation of the walls was even higher by 2 to 4 dB, depending on the type of wall. The result is a product for more demanding customers at a very affordable price.

Duo hybrid solutions also have their uses in the attic.

In order to ensure robust attic lining that protects the roof structure against fire up to REI class 30 (according to the requirements of the technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location), we designed three variants of the DUO hybrid attic lining. With sheathing in two layers of GKB A and GKF DF, GKBI H2 and DFH2, GKB A and DFH2IR. We have subjected them to fire resistance tests at the ITB Fire Research Department in Pionki in accordance with the PN-EN 1365-2:2014-12 standard. These linings, filled with 20 cm of mineral wool or 20 cm of polyurethane foam, achieved a fire resistance of REI 30. We have developed attic lining solutions that effectively protect roof structures from fire, and the double plasterboard sheathing guarantees a solid lining free of cracks and scratches that can occur in single-ply linings as a result of the movements of the roof structure.
